2.3" Polished Tigers Eye Sphere

This is a top quality, 2.3" wide polished sphere of Tiger Iron. It includes a display stand.

Tiger iron is a rock composed mainly of tiger's eye, red jasper and black hematite in an undulating banded pattern. It's mined primarily in two large deposits, one in South Africa and the other in Western Australia. It's theorized that Tiger Iron is actually a stromatolite, a trace fossil of ancient ancient algae some 2.8 billion years ago.

Tiger's eye, one of the main components of Tiger Iron is a chatoyant gemstone with a golden coloration and silky luster. It's primarily composed of quartz and the appearance is from the parallel intergrowth of quartz crystals and altered amphibole fibres that have mostly turned into limonite.
