Gorgeous Aquamarine Crystal On Muscovite - Pakistan

This is a beautiful, gemmy, sky-blue aquamarine crystal on muscovite from Baltistan, Pakistan. It features several lustrous, aquamarine beryl crystals that have formed upon a group of coarse muscovite crystals. The largest aquamarine is 2" long by 1.3" wide and the entire specimen is 3.1 x 2.1".

The largest aquamarine crystal has some minor breakage on what could be considered the back side of the crystal. Smaller crystals can be found scattered around the muscovite-encrusted matrix.

Beryl is a mineral composed of beryllium aluminum cyclosilicate, with the chemical formula Be3Al2(SiO3)6. Naturally occurring beryl tends to form hexagonal crystals that can reach several meters in size if given the right conditions. Completely pure beryl will be transparent and colorless, while mineral impurities frequently tint the crystals color in most specimens.

Well known varieties of beryl include aquamarine and emerald, although beryl can also be green, blue, yellow, white and red, depending on the incorporated impurities during formation. Red beryl is its rarest form, and can currently only be found in New Mexico and Utah.

Muscovite is a phyllosilicate mineral of aluminium and potassium. It has a highly perfect basal cleavage yielding remarkably thin laminae which are often highly elastic.
