8.8" Wide Amethyst Crystal Cluster - Zambia
This is a beautiful, 8.8" wide cluster of wonderful purple amethyst crystals from the mines in Zambia, Africa. The crystals are in excellent condition with wonderful terminations. This plate is unique in that there is a crystal that appears to have been split in half and healed. It appears a crystal began to form at the center of this split crystal, however it's difficult to speculate as to how this could have happened. The base of the plate is flat and displays well on a flat surface.
Amethyst is a purple variety of quartz (SiO2) and owes its violet color to natural irradiation, iron impurities, and the presence of trace elements, which result in complex crystal lattice substitutions. It’s considered a semi-precious gemstone, and just two centuries ago was considered to have a value on par with diamonds, sapphires and rubies. The largest, and best known amethyst deposit occur in southern Brazil and Uruguay but many localities around the world produce an amazing variety of amethyst crystals and formations.
