5.8" Polished, Brecciated Mookaite Slab - Western Australia

This is a 5.8" wide, polished slab of richly colored brecciated Mookaite. One side has been polished to a mirror like finish and it comes with an acrylic display stand.

This stunning multi colored stone is found in the Kennedy Ranges near Gascoyne Junction in Western Australia. Mookaite can be described as chert, opalite, chalcedony or combinations of the three. It's believed that it was formed when "silica rich, mineralized solutions have seeped through the radiolarite pavement beneath the floor of the usually dry creek bed. These solutions have concentrated in various horizons and formed as nodules & sheets of multi-colored chalcedony."

The term "brecciated" is directly related to broken up and cemented mineralizations, such as this mookaite. Following the breaking of this rock, ground water containing silica assisted in the natural cementing process of the fragmented mookaite, resulting in this beautiful mineral conglomerate.
