2.5" Smithsonite Specimen - Greece

This is a layered, botryoidal formation of smithsonite, collected from the Kamariza Mine in Lavrion, Greece. This specimen is 2.5" and contains multiple layers of blue-green smithsonite.

Smithsonite is known to form in earthy botryoidal masses, sometimes forming grape-like structures. It can be found as a secondary mineral in oxidation zones of zinc ore deposits, in some sedimentary deposits and as an oxidation product of sphalerite. The chemical formula of smithsonite is ZnCO3.
