11.1" Quartz & Calcite Crystal Cluster on Metal Stand - Uruguay

This is a unique quartz crystal geode section from the famous amethyst mines near Artigas, Uruguay. Within the center of this geode section is a large aggregation of calcite crystals. Some spots of this calcite are encrusted in small quartz crystals, while the exposed calcite is transparent in spots and ranges in color from colorless to deep yellow-orange. This is a truly fascinating specimen that we can guarantee will look even better in person than in the photos.

This stunning specimen includes the custom metal display stand shown in the photos.

Silicon Dioxide, also know as SiO2 or Quartz, is the second most abundant mineral in the Earth's crust. Quartz crystals generally grow in silica-rich, hot watery solutions called hydrothermal environments, at temperatures between 100°C and 450°C, and usually under very high pressure. Quartz veins are formed when open fissures are filled with hot water during the closing stages of mountains forming, and can be hundreds of millions of years old.
