Three Hoploscaphites Ammonites + Baculites

This is a impressive, free-standing association with three Hoploscaphities ammonites and several Baculites (straight cephalopods). The largest ammonite is 2.7" wide and the entire piece is about 5.7" tall and 4" wide. The concretion these fossils were found in has been wonderfully prepared and stands on it's own making for a very aesthetic display.

These 70 million year old ammonites lived when South Dakota was a shallow inland sea. It was found preserved in a concretion that was split open. It then had to be hand prepared to remove the hard rock surrounding it from the shell, a very time consuming task.
