Superb Gilbertsocrinus Crinoid - Crawfordsville

This is a fantastic specimen of the crinoid Gilbertsocrinus tuberosus from the Crawfordsville, Indiana. It is very 3D and beautifully prepared. The crown is just under 2 inches wide and the stem is 4 inches long. There is a crown of a second smaller crinoid on the back of the piece. Gilbertsocrinus is one of the ornates and sought after crinoides from Crawfordsville.

Crawfordsville, Indiana is world renown for it's spectacular crinoid fossils. There are over 60 species of Lower Mississipian crinoids present in the area. They are renown for their three dimensional preservation and also their size.
