Monster 4.25" T-Rex Tooth - Exceptional Condition

Large, high quality Tyrannosaurus rex teeth like this are extremely rare and are probably one of the most collectable fossils in the world. They tend to get snapped up pretty quickly when they hit the market. This one is an absolute monster at 4.25" in length. To put it in perspective a 5 1/8" tooth said to be the largest found (measuring crown length) sold for $56,250 at auction in 2011. While not 5 inches this tooth is in far better condition than that one.

The tooth is in exceptional shape, retaining much of it's enamel, many of the serrations and has NO RESTORATION. If the buyer chose, we could do the restoration work on the tooth and make it look perfect, but we will leave that up to the buyer.

A tooth of this size would have come from a large adult animal, probably around the size of Stan who is 40 feet in length.

This tooth was found at a private ranch in Butte County, South Dakota this summer. It comes from a quarry known as the "Tooth Draw Quarry" that has produced many high quality dinosaur teeth over the past several decades. In the Late Cretaceous some 65 million years ago, this quarry was located in a sub-tropical floodplain that would have been similar to modern day coastal Louisiana. It consists of 2 meters of alternating sandstone and gravel, representing a river channel lag deposit. It has produced many isolated dinosaur teeth including T-Rex, Nanotyrannus, Raptors and Triceratops, but true T-Rex teeth especially large ones are rare finds.

The last two photos show the collecting location.
