Incredible, 3D, 4.2" Jimbacrinus Crinoid - Australia

This is an very 3D and lifelike Jimbacrinus bostocki crinoid fossil from Western Australia. This alien-looking crinoid is in exceptional condition, is 4.2" long and displays very aesthetically in a sculpted block of stand stone. It's from the Early Permian, approximately 280 million years ago.

These Jimbacrinus crinoids are hard to acquire due to Australia's strict fossil export laws and this specimen is one of a small number that were legally exported with the appropriate permits.

Crinoids, sometimes commonly referred to as sea lilies, are animals, not plants. They are echinoderms related to starfish, sea urchins, and brittle stars. Many crinoid traits are like other members of their phylum; such traits include tube feet, radial symmetry, a water vascular system, and appendages in multiples of five (pentameral). They first appeared in the Ordovician (488 million years ago) and some species are still alive today.
