Alien Looking Jimbacrinus Crinoid Pair - Australia

This is a pair of very 3D and lifelike Jimbacrinus bostocki crinoid fossils from Western Australia. This alien-looking crinoids are in exceptional condition with the larger specimen being about 4" in length. They are nicely prepared and stand it out high relief against the rock. Making this piece even more unusual is the presence of a bryzoan and shellfish fossil along with them.

These Jimbacrinus crinoids are hard to acquire due to Australia's strict fossil export laws and this specimen is one of a small number that were legally exported with the appropriate permits.

Crinoids, sometimes commonly referred to as sea lilies are animals not plants. They are echinoderms related to starfish, sea urchins and brittle stars. Many crinoid traits are like other members of their phylum. Such traits include tube feet, radial symmetry, a water vascular system, and appendages in multiples of five (pentameral). They first appeared in the Ordovician (488 million years ago) and some species are still alive today.
