9.4" Fossil Running Rhino (Hyracodon) Partial Skull - South Dakota

This is a 9.4" long partial skull of the running rhino, Hyracodon nebrascensis. It was collected from the Brule Formation (White River Badlands Group_ in South Dakota and would be approximately 30-33 million years old.

This specimen is accompanied by a display stand to assist with presentation.

The teeth are all natural, and aside from one tooth, they're unrepaired. The upper skull is disarticulated and fragmented in spots, however most of it is present. The mandible is about 80-85% and has not undergone any bone gap fill restoration. Overall the skull is approximately 75% complete.

Hyracodons were hornless running rhinoceroses with large heads compared to their slight, pony-like bodies. They are an extinct line, though: we're sure you've noticed that there are no rhinos browsing the plains of North America today.
