.71" Tyrannosaur Premax Tooth - Judith River Formation, Montana

This is a .71" Tyrannosaur premaxillary tooth from the Judith River Formation of Montana. This formation is approximately 70 million years old, or about 5 million years older than the Hell Creek Formation which produces T-Rex.

The majority of this tooth is in excellent condition, featuring beautiful enamel preservation with some remaining serrations. There is feeding wear that starts at the tip and runs up one of the serrated edges, and there is a spot where the enamel chipped away from the tooth. Comes with an acrylic display case.

Three species of tyrannosaur have been described from the Two Medicine & Judith River Formations: Albertosaurus, Gorgosaurus and Daspletosaurus. Research done on teeth from these three tyrannosaurs has concluded that isolated teeth are statistically impossible to assign to a specific genus because they are so similar.
