7.8" Fossil Salamander (Chelotriton) - Gračanica, Bosnia

This is an amazing 7.8" fossil salamander (Chelotriton paradoxus) from Bosnia-Herzegovina. It is a very well preserved specimen with excellent bone preservation. The rock that it was prepped from has been cut flat along its edges and measures 10.8 x 6.8". The rock in which the salamander was found is rather thin so it has been adhered to a painted piece of wood for stability.

Chelotriton paradoxus is an extinct species of salamander that closely resembles two living salamanders, Tylototriton and Echinotriton.

It comes with an acrylic display stand.

There is a repaired crack through the rock that runs through much of the body of the salamander. This required some gap fill restoration of the specimen. Both left hands have been restored, along with some restoration at the distal end of the tail where another repaired crack can be found.
