This is a beautiful, 7.5" tortoise (Testudo) from the White River Formation in South Dakota. It is inflated, not highly crushed like many specimens. The shell and the stone are very stable. Small cracks run across the carapace (upper shell) and plastron (lower shell) that occurred during fossilization. There is a small area of restoration on the left rear, carapace.
