6.1" Fossil Mosasaur (Tethysaurus) Jaw Section - Goulmima, Morocco

 
 
 
This is a beautiful 6.1" fossil jaw section of Tethysaurus nopcsai, a medium sized Mosasaur from Goulmima, Morocco. This is a portion of the Maxilla (upper jaw) from the right side of the skull. The Maxilla is the part of the skull from the tip of the jaw to behind the last tooth. This section of the maxilla contains 9 teeth. The bone is in good condition with a repaired crack. This incredible specimen show a portion of the interior of the nasal cavity of the skull in addition to the jaw and teeth.

Tethysaurus is an extinct genus of tethysaurine mosasauroid from the Early Turonian (Late Cretaceous) period. The only species is Tethysaurus nopcsai . .An average-sized mosasaur of 3 m (9.8 ft) length, Tethysaurus displays a number of basal and derived features that led to an initial classification as an intermediate stage between primitive aigialosaurids of the Cenomanian and derived mosasaurids from the Turonian to the Maastrichtian.[
