This is a .31" long beetle (order Coleoptera) elytron fossil, collected from the Oligocene-aged deposits of Bois d'Asson, France. An elytron (plural: elytra) is a hardened forewing/cover/sheath that protects the wing(s) of beetles. This is part of an old collection that we recently acquired.

It is the negative split of the elytron.
