2.7" Prone Pedinopariops Trilobite - Nice Preparation

This is a 2.7" long, perfectly prone specimen of Pedinopariops (Hypsipariops) vagabundus from Mrakib, Morocco. It has excellent shell detail including clearly preserved eye facets. There is a slight discoloration on the right side of the head which is natural and due to that part of the trilobite being closer to a fault in the rock or weathered surface. About 3% restoration along the repaired crack running down the right side of the trilobite. A beautiful specimen.

Trilobites were a very diverse group of extinct marine arthropods. They first appeared in the fossil record in the Early Cambrian (521 million years ago) and went extinct during the Permian mass extinction (250 million years ago). They were one of the most successful of the early animals on our planet: over 25,000 species have been described, filling nearly every evolutionary niche. Due in large part to their hard exoskeletons (shells), they left an excellent fossil record.
