10.8" Pennsylvanian Fossil Cordaite Tree Artesia - Kentucky

This is a 10.8" wide fossil artesia (pith cast) of a cordaite tree, collected from the Breathitt Formation of Leslie County, Kentucky. It comes from the Late Carboniferous, Pennsylvanian aged forests that formed the coal shales of Kentucky and Ohio. Cordaite trees are a type of seed bearing tree that grew during the Carboniferous-Pennsylvanian period.
