1.9" Ordovician Starfish (Petraster?) Fossil - Morocco
This is a 1.9" wide, Ordovician aged starfish of the genus Petraster. It comes from the Tioririne Formation near Blekus, Morocco. The specimen shows an amazing amount of detail and the natural, orange coloration is due to the oxidization of iron pyrite.
There are multiple crack repairs through the rock where it was broken during extraction. One of these cracks went through the starfish, though there is no indication of restoration at the point of breakage.
