1.1" Pathological (Split Blade) Otodus Shark Tooth - Morocco

This is a very interesting fossil! It's a pathalogical, 1.1" long Otodus obliquus with a growth abnormality. The blade of the tooth is almost split in two, leaving it with its deformed presentation. Portions of the root have broken away.

Otodus is an extinct, giant mackerel shark that lived during the Eocene, approximately 54 million years ago. These teeth are collected during the massive phosphate mining operations in the Oulad Abdoun Basin of Morocco. While teeth of Otodus are very common fossils at the mines, large, good quality specimens are hard to find as they are often destroyed by the mining equipment.
